Welcome to A Chord of 3 Strands!
I initially chose to create this blog to highlight and share stories of
my 15+ years of friendship with two very dear ladies, Dawn
and Daphne. They are my spiritual sisters in Christ and are truly like
sisters to me. I've adopted the Robin Jones Gunn term "sisterchicks" for these awesome friends!
The three of us have been roommates off and on for the better part of 15 years, which is something of a
feat...or so I've been told. There are many stories of friendship, life lessons, and especially truths from God's Word that I
hope to share with you.
So why "a chord of 3 strands"?
Well, "cord" was already taken, so that's why the spelling is a bit
different, but it all stems from the verse below regarding what the
Bible says about the "value of a friend."
In
Ecclesiastes 4:9-12: Two are better
than one, because they have a good return for their labor. For if either
of them falls, the one will lift up his companion. But woe to the one
who falls, when there is not another to lift him up. Furthermore, if two
lie down together, they keep warm; but how can one be warm alone? And
if one can overpower him who is alone, two can resist him. A cord of
three strands is not quickly torn apart. (Holy Bible, NASB Version)
This passage shows the value of a friend, a
companion...some one who 'has your back'. My "sisterchicks" (Dawn and Daphne) have been the other two strands
in my life for many years. Together our friendship has forged a
strong cord.
Have you ever looked at woven cord? When it's loose you can
pull apart the individual strands, yet when you apply tension, those
strands draw tautly together and you cannot pull apart the strands. The
tension is when the individual strands draw together to become a strong
cord.
Friendships should be like that. It may be rare
to find friends that you remain that close to personally, but a good
friend is one that you can resume a conversation with as if you just
paused for a moment, even if it's been years! They are family. They'll
hold you accountable. They KNOW you (the good, bad, and ugly). Those are
the friendships we need to cultivate and nurture.
So
as I blog here, I intend to share much from God's Word, as that is my
heart's call. I'll also pepper in some fun stories, and life
lessons...because we all have something we can learn from another.
Thanks for joining me here, and...
Welcome to the Family!
